Jhansi. The commercial tax department is running a campaign against betel nut, mentha oil and pan masala traders. The bills of all the vehicles which are entering the division related to these items are being checked. It is believed that these businessmen are paying less tax.
In fact, under GST, five percent tax is levied on betel nut and mentha oil and 28 percent on pan masala. In Jhansi, Jalaun and Lalitpur of the division, 36 traders of pan masala, six of mentha oil and ten of betel nut are registered. The tax department is not getting as much as it should. The officers were getting information of large scale tax evasion on these items.Due to this, now the department has started a campaign against the said items. In this regard, Joint Commissioner (Special Research Branch) Arun Kumar Singh said that the campaign has been started. E-way bills of all the vehicles related to betel nut, mentha oil and pan masala entering the division are being checked. 18 lakh fine imposed on pan masala Commercial tax mobile team checked the forms of a vehicle carrying pan masala from Delhi to Meghalaya. Scrutiny of forms found that pan masala is being transported without e-way bill. The goods were released after the concerned businessman deposited a fine of Rs 18 lakh.
